Elizabeth Lauten, the GOP staffer who resigned Monday morning after calling President Obama's teenage daughters classless, was arrested when she was 17 for shoplifting, according to the Smoking Gun.
Lauten, who
last Thursday wrote that Malia, 16, and Sasha, 13 "should try showing a
little class" and learn to dress like they "deserve respect and not a
spot at the bar," was reportedly arrested in 2000 for stealing from a
Belk department store in her North Carolina hometown.
As a
first-time offender, Lauten qualified for her district court's deferred
prosecution program, and all charges were eventually dismissed. It's
unclear if any congressmen's communications directors publicly and
stupidly slammed Lauten's perfectly normal teenage behavior.
